PRESS RELEASE

Winter Horticultural Therapy Teaching Sessions

This winter, the Guelph Enabling Garden (GEG) will be visiting local organizations, offering them free Horticultural Therapy Teaching Sessions. The purpose of these sessions is to give community members an idea of the types of activities (also free of charge) that are offered in the Garden during the summer months.

The GEG is offering winter sessions on the following topics:

Aromatherapy

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about how certain scents can give rise to different emotions. For instance, lavender provides a scent that can stabilize the mood, promoting a sense of calmness and well being when a person is feeling stressed. Last summer, the Garden grew many wonderfully scented herbs and harvested them. During this winter session, participants will get the chance to make potpourri sachets from these dried herbs.

Plant Propagation for Container Gardening

Participants will learn which plants are the best to propagate and get a lesson on basic indoor plant care. During the session participants will be putting together their own creative planters from cuttings.

For more information about the workshops or about The Guelph Enabling Garden visit www.enablinggarden.org or contact Lea at lea@green-ideas.ca or 519-993-5323. For information about volunteering contact Wendy at wendylew@sympatico.ca.
